Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of those sequels which is bigger and better than its previous title. The game’s storyline takes off from where Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ended and even though the single player campaign is not long, you will spend hundreds of hours playing both the Multiplayer and the Special Ops modes. Modern Warfare 2 is simply the best first person shooter available and the level of fun and detail in the game is immense. This is a game where even non-FPS fans enjoy playing.

The single player campaign takes place in a number of countries around the world mainly Afghanistan, Brazil, Siberia and the USA. The story isn’t the game’s best aspect but the challenging and non-stop action throughout the campaign is one of the best around. Missions differ from an all-out assault gunning to stealth approach. Enemy AI is very intelligent by taking cover and flank you where necessary. The level of detail is great in action even though you can notice some patchy textures if you examine certain things closely. Average completion time of the game is 5-6 hours, short in today’s gaming world. But a massive number of hours await you in the Spec Ops and Mulitplayer modes, especially the latter.

Non-stop action.

The Spec Ops mode consists of various missions which are played alone or in co-op, both offline and online. These missions include going from one place to another and surviving, defending yourself from a huge amount of enemies and also racing on snowmobiles. This mode is made to play in co-op because it is much more satisfying than in single player because in a number of times teamwork is needed between the two. The only problem here is that if you find someone you don’t know online and he goes on his own, than the mission becomes more difficult to complete since there is no teamwork.

Last and not least is the Multiplayer mode which is the main turning point that makes this game what it is. This hooking mode was also experienced in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and this time the action is faster and more satisfying. Playing online is very addictive and this is increased because of the number of items that one gains the more he plays. Game types include Team Deathmatch, Free for All, Domination, Capture the Flag, Search and Destroy and much more. For every game played experience points are earned and these unlock new guns, equipment, skills and also titles and emblems. There are a number of default classes that one can choose from or else decide to customize some classes that fit the gamer’s style of play. Weapon variety has been enhanced in Modern Warfare 2 and the more one uses them these guns improve by acquiring attachments.

Welcome to Rio de Janeiro.

Kill streak rewards have been improved and new ones are available. These rewards are triggered after defeating the specified amount of enemies and one has three slots for these rewards. Perk additions can also be upgraded the more a player uses them. Perks include the Marathon, Scrambler, Scavenger, Ninja, Coldblooded and a lot more. Once can set a maximum of three perks. The more experience gained online the more the player levels up. The limit is level 70 and once the player reaches it, he can decide to stay at level 70 or else start again from 1 without the acquired guns and equipment (one keeps the titles and emblems), in Prestige Mode. There are 10 Prestige Modes so basically there are 770 levels if one decides to go till the end and obtain the ultimate level.

To conclude this review, one can say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a full package that in some way or another will make players want to play it, and the more this game is played, the more addicted it gets. With all the customizations that one can make and the various types of games available, Modern Warfare 2 will steal hundreds of hours to gamers around the globe. Available on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, this game is simply the best first person shooter to date. A must buy.

An improvement on its predecessor. The effects in the action-packed battle environments are realistic and amazing. Brilliant.
Weapon sound effects couldn’t be better and this is complemented by the magnificent soundtrack of composer Hans Zimmer.
The fun factor increases the more you play. Single player campaign is just a prologue of what Modern Warfare 2 can offer. Totally addictive.
